Days Leading up to the
50 Year Anniversary
The 50th anniversary has been weighing heavily on my mind for a few months. Yesterday, as I was downloading graphic comments to use on some social networks, I ran across one about March 16 (3/16) and John 3: 16. Yesterday wasn't 3/16, but I saved it to my computer.

The graphic had caught my attention, but the discussion in Sunday School this morning (March 8) took it a little further. There was a discussion about how we miss out on blessings because we are focusing on the wrong things. I've been focusing on the loss we suffered that day.
But, what really got my attention was today's sermon text - John 3: 1-21 with an emphasis on ..... John 3:16. Was it a coincidence? I don't think so.
Along with the message of salvation was the message of the hope we have through Christ. Here's a rough transcript of the part near the end. (at about 20:45 left)
"But you see what Jesus goes on to tell us. What he also goes on to show us is the truth that death did not get the victory. I love that verse in the Scripture, 'Oh, death, where is your sting? Oh, death, where is your victory?' You see, Jesus Christ has plucked out the stinger. Death has no sting now. Death has no victory over us. We have victory over death. Because that is when we truly get to come out of the darkness into His marvelous light....."

I've only been attending Grace since January. No one there knows what the significance of 3/16 holds for me. Only my family, some very close friends and people from my home town do know. But God knows and I believe He wanted to get my attention to remind me to focus on Him. He wanted to remind me of things I already knew but was ignoring as I was spending too much time dwelling on the past.
I'm sharing this story in hopes it might help someone else who is going through a rough time dealing with loss to focus on what is important.
Maybe God is wanting to tell you something. too. I pray you are willing to listen.
