Airman Max Bettman

The following official military pictures were given to Max Bettman by a military person before he left Da Nang shortly after the crash.

Airman First Class Max W. Bettman distinguished himself by outstanding

Achievement at Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, on 16 March 1970.

On that date, Airman Bettman rushed to the site of an aircraft crash.

Despite the hazards of burning fuel and exploding munitions, Airman

Bettman unhesitantly persevered in his efforts to aid wounded men,

And to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures and aircraft.

By his prompt action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Airman

Bettman has reflected credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
