On that date Sergeant Mills assisted in rescue and firefighting operations when a United States Navy EC-121 aircraft crashed on the flight line of DaNang Air Base. Despite the hazard of exploding ordnance and fuel cells and the fact the he was personally injured he unhesitatingly entered the aircraft and persevered in his humanitarian efforts until all victims were removed to a place of safety. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, Staff Sergeant Mills has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
